1998 Mockingbird Monologue Example #2 (Note: I don't agree with this writer that Boo Radley sneaks out of the house at night and peeks in people's windows. I believe that is Miss Stephanie Crawford's rumor and nothing more. However, the idea that he does watch people sleeping at night works well for the development of this monologue.)

• • • The question was: Which books? There were always more I wanted to burn than we had time to film. I knew I wanted to include some of my favorites, like “Crime and Punishment,” “Song of Solomon” and the works of Franz Kafka. But we had to burn more than just fiction. Herodotus’ “Histories” — history itself — was incinerated. Pages of Emily Dickinson, Tagore and Ferdowsi’s poetry crumbled into black ash. Hegel, Plato and Grace Lee Boggs’s philosophy were set on fire. The firemen discriminate against no one: Texts in Chinese, Hindi, Persian and Spanish all burned. A Mozart score, an Edvard Munch painting, magazines, newspapers, photographs of Sitting Bull, Frederick Douglass and the 1969 moon landing went up in smoke.

• Quiz & Worksheet - Managing Appointments for Veterinary Offices The Tortoise and the Hare, The Old Woman and the Doctor and The Cat and the Mice are just some of the famous fables in this wonderful collection, all replete with their own moral lessons. Offering no single, uniform moral standard there are plenty of stories here to dip in and out of, although whether Aesop did actually write all of them is a hot topic of debate in academic circles.

• Home It could be said that this soft, gentle approach is indicative of an Introvert rather than an Extravert. If Atticus were a Protagonist (ENFJ) and not an Advocate, our research tells us that he would’ve been much more likely to make his expectations very clear without asking for input from his daughter. A Protagonist personality likely would’ve told her the terms of the compromise and that she had to do it.

Here's a way to introduce such ideas to readers who may find reading and complex conversation more difficult in the midst of too much screen time. The book's real hero is the teenaged Clarisse, a martyr for thoughtfully and reflectively processing the novel's dystopian world. Highly recommended. ...more credit-by-exam regardless of age or education level.

Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were heading for shore.” Before I start this review, let's be clear that I can't spell Fahrenheit to save my life. Every freaking time I have to see it to type it out. Grrr. 'Tis a difficult word. This bizarre little book speaks intensely without using words to do it about how sad life's state can get when people become 3.5 stars

• Their Eyes Were Watching God Themes "Alicia Berenson was thirty-three years old when she killed her husband. They had been married for seven years. They were both artists—Alicia was a painter, and Gabriel was a well-known fashion photographer." Michaelides' debut is narrated in the voice of psychotherapist Theo Faber, who applies for a job at the institution where Alicia is incarcerated because he's fascinated with her case and believes he will be able to get her to talk. The narration of the increasingly unrealistic events that follow is interwoven with excerpts from Alicia's diary. Ah, yes, the old interwoven diary trick. When you read Alicia's diary you'll conclude the woman could well have been a novelist instead of a painter because it contains page after page of detailed dialogue, scenes, and conversations quite unlike those in any journal you've ever seen. " 'What's the matter?' 'I can't talk about it on the phone, I need to see you.' 'It's just—I'm not sure I can make it up to Cambridge at the minute.' 'I'll come to you. This afternoon. Okay?' Something in Paul's voice made me agree without thinking about it. He sounded desperate. 'Okay. Are you sure you can't tell me about it now?' 'I'll see you later.' Paul hung up." Wouldn't all this appear in a diary as "Paul wouldn't tell me what was wrong"? An even more improbable entry is the one that pins the tail on the killer. While much of the book is clumsy, contrived, and silly, it is while reading passages of the diary that one may actually find oneself laughing out loud.

The loss of Clarisse becomes an obsession for Guy Montag. He reveals his hoard of books and puts all of his energy into undermining the government. Clarisse comes to represent a beacon of hope for Montag - and really a beacon of hope for society. Despite the government's best efforts, Clarisse retained a level of perception and intuition that was otherwise stamped out in most other people. «Fix»

Autumn arrives, and Scout and Jem attend an evening school pageant in which Scout portrays a ham. After the pageant, Scout is unable to find her dress and shoes, forcing her to walk home with Jem while wearing the large, hard-shelled costume. While cutting through the woods, Scout and Jem are attacked. Scout's cumbersome costume protects her but restricts her vision. The attacker knocks Jem unconscious but is himself attacked (and killed) by a second man unseen by Scout. Scout escapes her costume and sees the second man carrying Jem towards their house. Scout follows them and runs into the arms of a frantic Atticus. Still unconscious, Jem has his broken arm treated by Doc Reynolds. (millions)

To Kill a Mockingbird is both a young girl’s coming-of-age story and a darker drama about the roots and consequences of racism and prejudice, probing how good and evil can coexist within a single community or individual. Scout’s moral education is twofold: to resist abusing others with unfounded negativity but also to persevere when these values are inevitably, and sometimes violently, subverted. Lee reportedly based the character of Atticus Finch on her father, Amasa Coleman Lee, a compassionate and dedicated lawyer. The plot of To Kill a Mockingbird was inspired in part by his unsuccessful youthful defense of two African American men convicted of murder. Criticism of the novel’s tendency to sermonize has been matched by praise of its insight and stylistic effectiveness. • The Truman Show – Burkhard Dallwitz and Philip Glass (1998)

“How inconvenient! Always before it had been like snuffing a candle. The police went first and adhesive-taped the victim's mouth and bandaged him off into their glittering beetle cars, so when you arrived you found an empty house. You weren't hurting anyone, you were hurting only things! And since things really couldn't be hurt, since things felt nothing, and things don't scream or whimper, as this woman might begin to scream and cry out, there was nothing to tease your conscience later. You were simply cleaning up. Janitorial work, essentially. Everything to its proper place. Quick with the kerosene! Who's got a match!” 33

Is it because fire is prettier by night? More spectacle, a better show?" He questions why this particular fire call was such a difficult one to make, and he wonders why his hands seem like separate entities, hiding one of the woman's books under his coat. Her stubborn dignity compels him to discover for himself what is in books.

Despite Tom's conviction, Bob Ewell is humiliated by the events of the trial, Atticus explaining that he "destroyed [Ewell's] last shred of credibility at that trial." [12] Ewell vows revenge, spitting in Atticus' face, trying to break into the judge's house and menacing Tom Robinson's widow. Finally, he attacks Jem and Scout while they are walking home on a dark night after the school Halloween pageant. Jem suffers a broken arm in the struggle, but amid the confusion, someone comes to the children's rescue.
