One the main symbols in this novel is introduced in the title: the mockingbird. Miss Maudie explains that 'it's a sin to kill a mockingbird,' because 'mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy'; they don't bother or harm anyone. The mockingbird becomes a symbol of innocence in the story, connecting to the characters Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. Characters, such as Jem, Dolphus Raymond and Dill, who suffer the consequences of society's hateful ways, are also connected to the symbol. These characters keep to themselves and cause harm to no one, yet are judged, shunned, and are emotionally or physically harmed by society. "Whole family moved out somewhere. But she's gone for good. I think she's dead."

Don't kill the unit before it's even begun! For years I gave a boring power point introduction to give my students necessary background information on To Kill a Mockingbird to ensure their success. Every semester, I dreaded this day; I knew it was a total bore to my students. What a way to set the The Bingleys and Georgiana (Darcy's sister) arrive at Pemberley. Soon after, they call upon Elizabeth, who is staying nearby at the inn in Lambton. Elizabeth immediately warms to Georgiana and Mr Bingley is delighted to see Elizabeth again.

Sofia Boutella as Clarisse McClellan Many people find Atticus to be an admirable figure in TKAM for his role in Tom Robinson’s trial. However, not nearly enough attention is given to Atticus parenting style. In this essay, discuss the effectiveness of Atticus’ parenting style. Explore specific incidents between Atticus, Jem, and Scout to prove whether Atticus’ parenting style was effective or ineffective. Feel free to compare/contrast Atticus’ parenting style with other famous parents (books, movies, or real life).

Book-burning censorship, Bradbury would argue, was a side-effect of these two primary factors; this is consistent with Captain Beatty's speech to Montag about the history of the firemen. According to Bradbury, it is the people, not the state, who are the culprit in Fahrenheit 451. [7] Nevertheless, the role of censorship, state-based or otherwise, is still perhaps the most frequent theme explored in the work. [84] [ better source needed] [85] References [ edit ]

Over 75 passages were modified to eliminate such words as hell, damn, and abortion, and two incidents were eliminated. The original first incident described a drunk man who was changed to a sick man in the expurgated edition. In the second incident, reference is made to cleaning fluff out of the human navel, but the expurgated edition changed the reference to cleaning ears.

Well, to someone who has read To Kill a Mocking Bird, a lot can be deduced from it in terms of topics. However, because there are still who will always find it challenging to formulate topics based on novels, this post is here to help. It takes a leap into a list of topics one can possibly craft out of To Kill a Mocking Bird and perhaps do a great literature analysis out of them, so read on for more. • Stride & Prejudice (2013 video game)

Want your baby to have a unique name? Well, you're not alone. Here are 15 different names you can take from "To Kill a Mockingbird." Who Was the Woman in White? Well, if you stayed all the way to the end credits, you know that Amma was the woman in white as well. “That was a really quick shot that we did,” Scanlen said in an interview. “The basis of the shot was to have this fantasy, eerie image of a woman in white. It kind of reminds me of a Greek goddess—a very menacing image.”

Why, then, might Austen feel the need to let Mrs Bennet so far into the narrative texture of a novel that clearly sees her as an object of ridicule? Her track record in Pride and Prejudice is not great, given that she tries to strongarm Elizabeth into accepting the odious walking cliche that is Mr Collins, as well as encouraging the very flirtatiousness that results in Lydia's elopement with Mr Wickham (presumably because she sees in her air-headed youngest daughters a reflection of her own past self). One explanation, I think, can be found in Austen's employment of the word "business". In this light, Mrs Bennet can be seen not as an aberration within the world of Pride and Prejudice, but more as an excessive, pathological response to a genuine social grievance. For, to someone in Mrs Bennet's modest social and economic position, getting that many daughters married off would indeed have been a serious business – especially considering the institutionalised iniquity of a family inheritance entailed away from the female line of succession.
