Video game adaptation of the first Harry Potter novel from J.K. Rowling's popular boy-wizard series. Meet up with Ron and Hermione, learn to fly a broom and play Quidditch, collect wizard cards, discover secret passages at Hogwarts, cast magic spells... all to the end of defeating You-Know-Who and stopping his evil plans for the Sorcerer's Stone. Written by Catch-22 was not regarded as a great success with the contemporary public or critics, earning less money and critical acclaim than the film version of MASH, another war-themed black comedy released earlier the same year. In addition, the film appeared as Americans were becoming more resentful of the bitter and ugly experience of the Vietnam War, leading to a general decline in the interest of war pictures, with the notable exceptions of MASH and Patton. [8] Critic Lucia Bozzola wrote "Paramount spent a great deal of money on Catch-22, but it wound up getting trumped by another 1970 antiwar farce: Robert Altman's MASH." [16] Film historians and reviewers Jack Harwick and Ed Schnepf characterized it as deeply flawed, noting that Henry's screenplay was disjointed and that the only redeeming features were the limited aerial sequences. I asked an 82-year-old friend for advice. “Go ahead and burn books,” he said. “They mean nothing to me. I can read anything on my tablet, from the ‘Epic of Gilgamesh’ to Jo Nesbo, and I can read them in bed, on a plane or next to the ocean, because it’s all in the cloud, safe from your firemen’s torches.” Harry’s aunt and uncle have attempted to conceal his wizard background but, in spite of their efforts, Harry is retrieved by Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) on the eve of his 11th birthday and is soon bound for Hogwarts School. While on the train to the wizard school Harry quickly makes friends with two other first year students, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson).

Ray Bradbury’s novel imagines a world where books are banned- and possessing, let alone reading them, is forbidden. The protagonist, Montag, is a fireman responsible for destroying what remains. The story raises the question: how can you preserve your mind in a society where free will, self-expression and curiosity are under fire? Iseult Gillespie examines what makes the dystopian novel a classic. Thorndike Press

• The Life & Times of Tim Catch-22 isn't so much a linear plot as it is a collection of instances involving revolving cast of characters responding to war in their own ways. There is Dobbs (played by Jon Voight), who finds the markets and the money to be made in the "opportunity." There is Orr (played by a very young Bob Balaban), who views his plane crashes as "practice runs" for a future escape. And then, there is Yossarian, who, for all his glib talk and outrageous antics and claims of insanity, emerges as the only character who seems sane surrounded by so much craziness.

While there, Camille reconnects with her estranged mother Adora and half-sister Amma. Camille never had a good relationship with her mother, as Adora always preferred Camille's younger sister Marian, who died due to an unspecified illness when Camille was young. Amma, who was born after Marian's death, has grown into a spoiled preteen who behaves like a young child in front of her mother to hide her drinking, drug use and promiscuity. Camille connects with a Kansas City detective, Richard Willis, sent to investigate the potential of a serial killer. Some allusions are easier to catch than others, and they can take many forms. An author can allude to the Bible, a historical event, or even Harry Potter. Allusions, like other literary devices, have the power to connect. We probably wouldn't normally connect Fahrenheit 451 and the story of the little Dutch boy, but this once again speaks to the power of a well-told story. We are able to be transported, to bring two distinct stories to one place, and make ourselves think about that relationship. Lesson Summary

Not necessarily, depending on your interpretation of the story. The way I read it, society disliked books because of the ideas presented in them, which made people question their lives and thus become unhappy. It's not as if the destruction of ideas was limited to books: magazines and TV became mindless, thoughtless entertainment as well. Nicolas Flamel [ edit ]
